retrac and fcc bring you the debut album from mysterious producer clust.r, who, after dropping some demos and featuring on a couple labels prior, is finally ready to release their first fully formed musical statement. “clust.r” is a dense and maximalist introduction to all of the artist’s tricks while simultaneously paying homage to their biggest influences: tirestires’ “shadowdog,” clarence clarity, boredoms, justice, mr oizo, and also some gamelan and molam music. it’s all jumbled up into what we (FCC and Retrac) would call “shadowpop.” serving as some sort of futuristic beat tape, the 17 short vignettes add up to a vivid picture of an online identity crisis that’s as anxious as it is life-affirming.
